Subject: | UPDATE: Issue with mailing lists |
Hi again,
One of our users has discovered how to get into the mailing list system to accept or reject such emails (below)....
When you click the link to moderate the message to the mailing list, you are (as mentioned below) presented with a "webmail" login prompt. If you enter your hosting account's "cPanel" username and password, you will be logged in and taken to the page where you can moderate the message.
If you need to do this, and don't know your cPanel username and password, please email me and I will send it to you.
We will, of course, wait for this issue to be fixed properly by cPanel.
Please pass this on to your mailing list moderator.
Cheers,
Mark.

Subject: Issue with mailing lists
Dear HarmonySite Administrator,
There's currently an issue with all HarmonySite mailing lists. The issue is NOT part of the HarmonySite software, the issue is on the server itself, in the mailing list software, called Mailman (not written by me or Virtual Creations). The issue was caused by a recent update to "cPanel", the software that is used to manage all hosting accounts on the server. I have alerted cPanel to this, but they can't promise when a fix will be issued. It could even be a week or two.
Here is the issue...
When someone who is NOT a member of a mailing list attempts to send an email to the mailing list, an email is sent to the list's "moderator", asking them whether they want to accept or reject the email. That notification email to the moderator has a link in it that the moderator can click to process the incoming email, which is held on the server until the moderator processes the message. That link is now WRONG. If you click on it, it will take you to a "webmail" login screen. Attempting to log into that screen will not succeed, so don't try. Further, if you log into the mailing list software via the website and then click on the "Tend to pending moderator requests" link, THAT link won't work either. In fact, there is currently NO way for the moderator to action these messages.
This means that any email sent to the mailing list by an UNRECOGNISED email address can NOT be processed (delivered to the list or rejected) - at least, not until this issue is resolved by cPanel. Also, note that every day the list will send out a reminder to the moderator that there are emails waiting to be moderated. Annoying!
Emails to the mailing lists by people who are ON the mailing lists are not affected - they will be delivered as normal.
Please alert your mailing list moderator.
Apologies for this issue - I wish there was something I could do about it!
Mark.
